This tutorial will teach you how to create a book using the Scribus application. You will learn how to import an eBook (.epub,.mobi or.pdf), add images, make it look fabulous and save it as a.rtf (Rich Text Format) file in a secure, password protected location on your computer. Scribus will create the.rtf file at the end of the tutorial, which you will be able to open in your favourite.rtf editor (you can use Windows Notepad for example). Download and install Scribus. You will also need a.rtf editor. I recommend Microsoft WordPad. You may also like to keep the Scribus application open for the duration of this tutorial, in case you need to make any changes. The completed book will be shown in the image below. The.rtf file is added to the same folder the application was downloaded to. This is where it will be stored and will be the name of the folder that the book will be stored in. Once the.rtf file is there, right-click it and click “open”. Scribus can open and save as many books as you have designs in your.scp or.epub file. IMPORT EXAMPLE The following is an example of importing an eBook into Scribus, you will simply need to adapt the file names etc. To import a.pdf eBook into Scribus, click File > Import. Click on the “Import selected files” and.pdf files into Scribus. In the File Import dialog, click on the Browse button. Navigate to your.pdf file and click OK. A new document will open in Scribus and the file will be imported. When you click on the links in this tutorial, it will take you to the Scribus website to enable you to download the necessary.scp or.epub files. Images can be added, images can be copied, and they can be displayed in your Scribus project, but first you will have to specify what to do. You can add images either by dragging them from your hard drive or by right-clicking on the image in the Scribus “Image Editor” and choosing “Add to Scribus”. Once they are added, you can resize them by clicking on the top ruler and dragging it, or using the “Image” toolbar. The Image toolbar contains lots of useful icons to add or remove images, and some that will change the way the image is viewed, i.e. the text font for
