counter-strike was not released in zanzibar and the shanghai areas until the expansion deleted scenes.  while the shanghai and zanzibar areas were not released in the original release, they would play a crucial role in the creation of counter-strike: condition zero. 
in an interview with gamespot gearbox software’s randy pitchford stated that the license for the original “mosin nagant” (basically a submachine gun) model was not transferred to ritual entertainment in the us, which is why they had to make their own.
counter-strike: condition zero has the singleplayer mission pack tour of duty.  this is a singleplayer only mission that can be performed once a player has passed requirements to unlock it. the requirements are pretty easy and consist of finishing a map with certain objectives, or to find certain items. some of the objectives that are required on certain maps. the player can play any number of mission packs, however only four maps are included in the singleplayer campaign.  the singleplayer campaign is only playable as the counter-terrorist. 
the campaign consists of several training, story, and missions. the campaign also offers a mission editor that allows the player to design their own levels, similar to the singleplayer mission pack tour of duty . the missions are split into 4 story missions, 5 story missions, 1 training mission and 1 flight mission. also the player can do 1 mission with a map call “eagle’s ledge”, the player can also play with a map called “damnation”. 
the character models in counter-strike: condition zero are a mix between the original counter-strike characters and the newer character models in counter-strike: source. the hair and facial features of the characters are blended to give a more realistic feel. several of the skins in the game are different versions of the same skins in counter-strike: source. in addition, a “hacked” version of the original counter-strike skin pack is available to download as an additional skin. the game has a wide range of graphic settings that allow players to adjust the quality of the graphics.
though the game was released prior to the release of counter-strike: source, it was later released on a platform that was at a much earlier stage of development. the goldsrc engine that was used in counter-strike: condition zero was based on the goldsrc engine used in counter-strike: source.
the multiplayer mode of counter-strike: condition zero is much improved over the original counter-strike multiplayer. a host of graphical features are added to the game and the maps are updated to include a wider variety of gameplay. the modes include a new mode, trench warfare, a deathmatch game type where the two teams of players are separated by a wall and players can only cross the wall by blowing up an explosive charge. this makes gameplay a lot more frantic and it adds a new element of strategy to the game.
in the time between the creation of the original counter-strike and the start of counter-strike: condition zero, a number of new features were added to the game. this includes the ability to play in either deathmatch or team deathmatch, the ability to play the game cooperatively with up to five other players (the most players ever in a single game for counter-strike), support for the xbox controller (although as of version 1.5 this is only possible with the enhanced player models), support for the aim controller, and support for the ability to switch between the cz and the og versions of the game.  the author of counter-strike: condition zero, richard rouse iii, has been involved in the development of a number of games in the counter-strike series. he has been the game design lead for both counter-strike: condition zero and counter-strike since 2001.
